In DeSantis’ Sunshine State, life is not all sunny

A lack of affordable housing and rising insurance rates are not going unnoticed.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing criticism for the affordability crisis in the state, particularly in housing and insurance. As he positions himself for a presidential run, opponents are using these issues against him. Democrats, conservatives, and various organizations are launching well-funded campaigns highlighting the rising housing costs, healthcare expenses, and DeSantis’ positions on abortion, gun safety, and corporate bailouts. Jeff Brandes, a former state senator, is skeptical about DeSantis’ approach, stating that simply throwing money at the problem won’t solve it. Housing and insurance problems in Florida have also caught the attention of billionaire investor Peter Thiel, who cited skyrocketing housing costs as a concern. These challenges provide an opportunity for Democrats and organizations to define DeSantis’ record for voters across the country.
