Florida Seniors ‘Terrified’ as Condo Crisis Could Leave Them Homeless

Homeowners association (HOA) fees and home insurance costs are skyrocketing in Florida, threatening retirees with the possibility of losing their homes. New regulations enacted after the Surfside condo collapse, combined with rising insurance premiums driven by litigation, fraud, and natural disasters, have significantly increased living expenses. Former State Senator Jeff Brandes warned that without legislative action, many Floridians may face financial ruin. In Miami-Dade County, median monthly condo fees have jumped 59% between 2019 and 2023, placing immense pressure on retirees who now risk homelessness.
